Position: Technical Coordinator

Responsibilities:
  1. Assists and provides support to the technical superintendents in organizing, coordinating, monitoring and following-up various outstanding items, defect reports, repairs and in organizing attendances for onboard services (external providers, service stations etc.).
  2. Assists in organizing new projects and dry-dockings under the guidance of the technical superintendents.
  3. Monitors and reviews vessel consumptions and various analysis reports and distributes respective files accordingly.
  4. Records and monitors the vessels’ technical superintendent attendance intervals, the produced reports and the identified deficiencies and ensures proper filing and record keeping.
  5. Monitors the status of certificates and coordinates their renewals. Ensures the certificates’ due dates monitoring system is always kept updated, communicates with the vessel’s class society and schedules, organizes and coordinates class attendances.
  6. Provides technical support and any additional technical documentation and assistance to shipboard personnel for the proper operation and maintenance of the vessels’ machinery and equipment. Ensures proper record keeping practices are followed-up on board. Ensures that all vessel’s reports, forms, records etc. are received timely, reviewed as required and filed accordingly.
  7. Ensures company’s policies and procedures are followed within the department. Prepares various reports, collects vessel performance data as required for the technical department’s reporting of KPIs.
  8. Inputs the various technical information, service reports in the company’s system as well as information related to purchasing, invoicing, certification and various technical matters.
  9. Occasionally attends a vessel as deemed necessary.
  10. Provides any other related assistance as required by the Fleet/Technical Manager or the Technical Director.
Qualifications / Experience:
  1. University degree in Engineering / Naval Architecture and minimum 2 years of experience in the Technical department of a shipping company.
  2. Fluency in English.
  3. Computer literate.
  4. Excellent communication skills.
  5. Ability to handle many tasks simultaneously within strict deadlines.

  • Vessels Operator
Position: Vessels Operator
Department: Operations & Insurance
Company: Star Bulk (Singapore) Pte. Ltd.
Reports to: Operations & Insurance Director
Responsibilities:
  1. Monitors daily the performance of assigned vessels based on flag, statutory and Company’s requirements regarding speed, consumption and weather conditions.
  2. Appoints cargo or bunker surveyors and port agents and arranges various ship services. Updates position list and books, checks with agents the ship’s prospects and approves D/As.
  3. Approves hire statements or freight invoices including lay-time calculations and assists chartering (cargo quantity/stowage calculations) in describing vessel’s characteristics and authorizes C/P clauses.
  4. Checks pre-stowage plans, loading sequences, passage plans, cargo docs, LOIs, bunker requirements and authorizes bunker purchases.
  5. Issues voyage instructions, ship’s cargo holds preparation instructions and Monitors ship’s cargo holds condition and preparation.
  6. Monitors the actual day-to-day performance and financial expenditure of assigned vessels.
  7. Communicates to Masters Voyage instructions, port requirements, local regulations, cargo requirements and precautions, ship’s charter party description and applicable clauses.
  8. Liaises with the Insurance Department in handling of claims, hazardous situations, accidents and P & I involvement and informs it in case of vessel breaking International Navigation Limits and war zones.
Qualifications / Experience:
  1. Minimum Captain Class B License, 5 years sea experience on bulk carriers and 5 years office experience or University degree in shipping, chartering, economics etc. and minimum 10 years office experience in the operations department of a dry cargo shipping company.
  2. English fluency and computer (MS Office / ERP Systems) literacy.
  3. Strong cross-cultural communication skills (i.e., ability to communicate with office, crew etc.)
  4. Strong market knowledge and commercial awareness.

Position: Freight Trader
Department: Athens Chartering team

Responsibilities:
  1. Identifies, secures and hedges spot and forward cargoes for the company’s fleet of head owned and time chartered in vessels
  2. Understands clearly all MTM, Risk, MTM & Risk related measures, P&L, P&L related impacts and own book management
  3. Prioritizes and executes proactively daily tasks in a high-pressure environment
  4. Actively contributes to the in-house research analysis
  5. Maintains existing and builds new relationships with charterer
  6. Access profitable cargo trading opportunities.
Qualifications / Experience:
  1. University degree in Shipping, Chartering, Economics or any relevant field
  2. Minimum 10 years of experience in the freight trading desk/chartering department of a dry cargo shipping company
  3. Experience with supramax and/or panamax size vessels will be an asset
  4. Excellent command of the English language
  5. Strong knowledge and relationships on grain / minerals' movements

  • Operations Liaison
Position: Operations Liaison
Department: Operations

Reports to: Operations & Insurance Director
Responsibilities:
  • Monitors communications relevant to the assigned vessels’ voyages, daily operations, orders and employment orders, as those have been performed by the third party managers and intervenes as necessary.
  • Follows up on fixtures, potential claims and other matters related to the charter parties, freight and hire collection and reviews the main terms slip preparation for each fixture.
  • Controls all disbursement reports and post fixture activities such as hire statements (Initial, biweekly, consolidated, final), lay time calculations, freight statements, debit/credit notes, and their collection. Also, assures that all the proceedings, reminders and communications have been initiated to the charterers and all outstanding amounts are collected.
  • Ensures that all disbursement accounts related to time chartered vessels are monitored, that respective amounts are incorporated into the hire statements and issues reminders to charterers when payments are delayed.
  • Checks the provisional and final results v/s the estimated results in cooperation with the Managers’ accounting department.
  • Assists on and reviews bunkers arrangements, appointment of ship agents and other ship services required for the employment of the 3rd party managed vessels and assures that the respective Managers follow up daily matters in accordance with the C/P terms.
Qualifications / Experience:
  • Captain Class A License.
  • Diploma in shipping or chartering will be an asset.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience at the Operations department of a shipping company with bulkers.
  • Awareness of C/P clauses and claims handling.

  5. Coordinates all the administration processes such as visitors, building maintenance, office needs.
  6. Runs all recruitment and selection processes including communication with the candidates, interview arrangements, coordination with line managers etc.
  7. Handles all the performance management and development processes.
  8. Maintains the Company’s human resources management system (HRMS).
  9. Assists on any projects assigned by the Head of HR.
Qualifications / Experience:
  1. University degree in HR, Business, Management, Psychology or any relevant field.
  2. A post graduate degree will be an asset.
  3. Minimum 10 years of experience in various HR areas (i.e., selection, recruitment, training, development, performance/talent management, payroll/benefits, employee relations, internal communication etc.).
  4. Good knowledge of Greek labor law.  
  5. Experience in the shipping industry will be an asset.
  6. Fluency in English and excellent knowledge of MS Office.
  7. Familiarity with human resources information systems (HRIS).
